I loved listening to High Cherry when I was in high school. Cherry, The Teal Don Steele, Lohman & Barkley, Johnnies Hayes and Magnus were my favorites. When I finally got into radio in ‘69, I emulated Hugh Cherry on KZON, Santa Maria, CA, but management (“Cyclone Stan” Saurassig) didn’t care much for my explanation of the roots of Cajun music and didn’t like any Hank Williams unless strings were added. Hugh Cherry. Magnificent.
This is a fascinating story, Jonny. I remember my father using acetates to promote his new songs, I still have many of them.
great, thanks!
